HONDA ANNOUNCES FURTHER PROGRESS TOWARDS ITS SUSTAINABILITY GOALS WITHIN 2023 EUROPEAN ENVIRONMENTAL REPORT

• Honda completed the electrification of its mainstream automobile range, and took the next step in the roll out of plug-in hybrid and battery electric technology in the region
• Brand investing more in sustainable materials and renewable energy, while reducing CO2 emissions in pursuit of global carbon neutrality by 2050

Honda has launched its 12^th annual European Environmental Report, which documents the steps it is taking towards achieving global carbon neutrality across all products, operations, and corporate activities by 2050.

Measured across the fiscal year from April 2022 to March 2023, one particular highlight has been the achievement of the commitment to electrify its mainstream automobile range. The 11^th generation Civic e:HEV arrived in late 2022, while 2023 has seen a further three electrified models: the ZR-V full hybrid, the CR-V, boasting the option of full hybrid and plug-in hybrid technology, and the brand’s first EV SUV for the region, the e:Ny1. The brand will continue to build on Its electrified line up, towards its aim of releasing 30 new EV models globally by 2030.

This commitment to more sustainable operations extends beyond automobiles and is shaping the technology being developed across Honda’s motorcycle and power product divisions – as demonstrated by the arrival of the EM1 e:, the brand’s first fully electric two-wheel model in the region.

It is also influencing all environmental policies, practices, and initiatives at the brand’s facilities across the region, as Honda makes investments in more sustainable materials and renewable energy, while significantly reducing CO₂ emissions and energy usage. One example being the fact it purchases 97% of its electricity from renewable sources.

Other key developments within Honda’s European Environment Report include:

• The launch of the EM1 e:, Honda’s first electric motorcycle in Europe, which uses the  Honda Mobile Power Pack e swappable batteries, developed in-house, to help customers make the transition to fully electrified mobility (p102 of the report)
• The expansion of e:PROGRESS, Honda’s intelligent electric vehicle charging service, soon to be available across Europe and to owners of other brands (p102)
• A vehicle-to-grid pilot in Germany demonstrating the role EVs can play in providing grid stability as part of a wider charging eco-system (p101)
• The expansion of Honda’s Energy Research Programme, with the introduction of a green hydrogen production facility at the company’s European R&D centre in Offenbach, Germany (p130)
• The company’s commitment to providing a positive social impact, including donating power products to support communities following natural disasters (p54, p138)
• Increased solar panel contributions to energy production on manufacturing and logistics facilities (p111, p120)
• Nature conservation and restoration of biodiversity at Japanese facilities (p30)

The Honda European Environmental Report also includes an overview of Honda’s global environmental performance, taken from the brand’s wider Sustainability Report for 2023. This demonstrates its continued global efforts to significantly reduce its emissions, while improving recycling processes and renewable energy development around the world.
