Honda K20C BTCC Engine wins at Race Tech World Motorsport Symposium

The Honda K20C engine used in the championship winning Halfords Yuasa Racing Car for the 2016 season has won the coveted race engine design of the year at the annual RACE TECH World Motorsport Symposium.

Essentially the same turbocharged K20C powerplant that Honda customers will find in their road going production Civic Type R, the two litre next generation touring car engine was developed by Neil Brown Engineering (NBE) and made its competition debut earlier this year at the start of the British Touring Car Championship season.

The launch of the NBE designed K20C engine marked the first time an integrated exhaust management engine design has been devolved and raced – making the triumph in the drivers’ championship with three-time winner Gordon Shedden at the wheel even more impressive.

Held last Tuesday at Nailcote Hall Country House Hotel just outside Warwick and now in its 12th year, the awards were part of the RACE TECH World Motorsport Symposium, which has built a reputation as the most prestigious international event and forum organised for the who's who of motorsport engineering at all levels.

Philip Crossman, managing director at Honda UK, commented: “Honda is one of the biggest engine manufacturers in the world – so for one of our power plants to be recognised for its performance and reliability in a race environment is a fantastic achievement. And triumphing after only one season of competing just goes to show the quality of what we produce and what Neil Brown can tweak. Here’s to more of the same!”

James Rodgers, Team Manager at Halfords Yuasa Racing, added: “The engine has been absolutely outstanding this season – it is a given that the team at Neil Brown Engineering can produce both race and championship winning engines – but to be recognised by the industry as the best race engine design is phenomenal in its first year.”
