Davide Soreca confirms leadership of EJ class at the GP of Italy

After the GPs of Finland and Spain, this weekend saw the third round of the Enduro World Championship take place in Spoleto, Italy; in which Davide Soreca confirmed his leadership of the EJ class.

The two-day race was organised by Moto Club Spoleto, who gained experience in organising the event after hosting an Italian Championship round in 2015, and featured three tough special tests; a great show for over 35,000 fans arrived from all over Italy.

Once again, Soreca was the EJ class star taking a beautiful win on Saturday with three race victories, including a gap of 20 seconds to the next placed rider on the second test. On Sunday, Soreca was still battling among the best riders and claimed the third step of the podium. Thanks to these results he has increased his lead in the World Standings.

It was a great performance by Giacomo Redondi too, who on Saturday finished fourth, just four seconds shy of the prestigious EnduroGP podium. However, it was a tough race on Sunday when the World Champion finished ninth, after losing time in the extreme test due to a fall in which he further stressed the cervical distortion.

It was a weekend of ups and downs for Davide Guarneri. On the first day he finished close to the top ten, but on Sunday he was only 17th due to some falls, in one of which he broke the radiator. However, he has a standout performance in the cross tests, where he took several victories.

This weekend the team also raced with #69 on the bike in memory of Nicky Hayden.

The Honda-RedMoto World Enduro Team now moves to Carsoli for the fourth round of the Italian Championship.

Davide Soreca

“It was an exciting weekend. On Saturday I won but on Sunday I pushed without taking too many risks, because the main goal is the championship. I preferred to take a safe third place. I’m very happy and I thank the team for the good job they’ve done.”

Giacomo Redondi

“On Saturday we lost the podium at the end, while on Sunday Larrieu was faster. We started in the best way and we could have been on the podium, but unfortunately in the extreme test I hit a tree and made my cervical distortion worse. I finished the day without risks, but I will give my best in the next competition.”

Davide Guarneri

“It was a tough weekend with many falls. In the extreme test I lost two minutes. Then I broke the radiator compromising my times even more. It’s a pity because I started well and in the cross test I managed to record good times.”

Tullio Pellegrinelli

“It was a good Saturday: Soreca was the winner, Redondi finished fourth and Guarneri was good despite a fall in the extreme test, which made him lose almost a minute and compromised his final result. We expected something more on the second day. However, Redondi lost precious seconds and Guarneri made several mistakes, which gave him a result below his potential. It was a good third place for Soreca though who strengthened his leadership in the world standing thanks to Persson’s out.”
