Honda scoops two Women’s World Car of the Year awards
  • Honda takes two category wins at the Women’s World Car of the Year awards
  • Civic takes the ‘family car’ category title, while Jazz is voted best ‘budget car’
  • The Women’s World Car of the Year panel consists of 17 judges from 14 different countries globally

Honda appears to be a hit with female drivers after walking away with two category wins at the Women’s World Car of the Year awards. The awards, now in their seventh year, are the only global car honours voted for exclusively by female automotive journalists.

The Honda Civic was crowned the winner of the ‘family car category’ while Jazz took the accolade of best ‘budget car’. The Japanese brand was the only manufacturer to take multiple category titles.

The voting process for Women’s Car of the Year awards is rigorous. Each member of the global judging panel submits their personal nominations. This years’ awards saw 294 cars nominated by 17 judges from 14 different countries. The nominated cars are then reduced to a shortlist of 32 cars in six different categories. The judging panel is comprised of distinguished female automotive journalists, who vote by secret ballot.

Sandra Hughes, Head of automobile marketing and product management, Honda Motor Europe, said, “Winning these two categories at the Women’s World Car of the Year awards shows how Honda’s cars match the needs of women around the world. What is particularly encouraging is the endorsement this gives to Civic ahead of the launch of the new hatchback here in Europe early in 2017.”
